GLOSSARY OF MAGNETIC TERMINOLOGY

Coercive Force ( Hc)
The demagnetizing force, in oersteds, required to reduce the residualinduction, Br, of a fullymagnetized magnet to zero.

Curie Temperature(Tw¡æ)
Temperature at which the parallel alignment of elementary magnetic moments? completelh disappears, and? the material is no longer able to hold Magnetization..

Gauss
Line of magnetic flux per square centimeter.this is a measure of flux density

Intrinsic Coercive Force( Hci)
This is a measure of a materials ability to resist emagnetization. This is measured in Oersteds

Isotropic
The material whose manetic properties are the same in any direction.

Anisotropic
The material has a preferred direction of magnetic orientation.

Magnetic Induction, B
Flux per unit area of a section normal to the direction of the magnetic path. Measured in gauss.

Maximum Energy Product ( BH.max)
The maximum product of (BdHd) which can be obtained on the demagnetization curve.

Maximum Operating Temperature
The maximum temperature of exposure that a magnet can forego without significant long-range instability or structural changes.

Magnetic Flux
The total magnetic induction over a certain area.

North Pole
That magnetic pole which attracts the geographic North Pole.

Oersted (Oe)
A unit of magnetic field strength or magnetizing force.

Orientation Direction
The direction in which an anisotropic magnet should be magnetized in Order to optimize the magnetic properties.

Residual Induction ( Br )
Flux density, measured in gauss, of a magnetic material after being fully magnetized in a closed circuit.
